Genomics and Expression Resource - Home

The Gene Expression Shared Resource operates under the directorship of Jeffrey P. Gregg, M.D., and encompasses the Gene Expression Resource (GER) facility. This shared resource has been designed to assist UC Davis Cancer Center researchers in analyzing the mechanisms and etiologies underlying cancer.

The UC Davis Cancer Center Genomics and Expression Resource:

The UC Davis Cancer Center Genomics and Expression Resource is located on the UC Davis Medical Center campus and is supported by the Cancer Center Support Grant (NCI P30 CA93373) as part of the National Cancer Institute Clinical Cancer Center designation. The GER performs Affymetrix GeneChip analysis for Cancer Center members at a highly subsidized recharge rate. We have been in operation since 2001 and we perform a large volume of Affymetrix GeneChip arrays for expression analysis of the human, mouse, rat, and dog genomes. Extensive protocol validation has allowed us to add expression analysis of small sample amplification preps as well. In addition, we have begun working with Affymetrix GeneChip technology for analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and we hope to be able to offer this genomic analysis service in addition to our gene expression analysis services.

The GER:

The GER is a facility that has the experienced staff, the reagents, and the instrumentation (including the Nanodrop spectrophotometer, the Agilent BioAnalyzer, the GeneChip Hybridization Oven, the GeneChip Fluidics Stations, and the GeneChip Array Scanner) for performing Affymetrix GeneChip expression analysis.

The GER staff consists of several Research Associates who perform the sample processing and expression analysis, perform data analysis, and provide general support. Resource management and scientific direction is provided by the Technical Director. The entire resource is overseen by the Director of the GER.
